Dirk Nowitzki Accepts MVP Award With ClassNBA News - National Basketball Association
In the DALLAS MORNING NEWS, Eddie Sefko writes “while he graciously accepted the Maurice Podoloff Trophy from Commissioner David Stern, Nowitzki disarmed a potentially sticky situation the same way he took apart so many defenses this season. On one of the greatest days in Mavs’ history, he deftly juggled the MVP with the extreme disappointment that came with ‘the debacle,’ which is what he called the first-round playoff flop against Golden State. ‘Dirk’ will forever be linked with all the other one-name wonders in NBA history after winning the Most Valuable Player award in a sizable victory over Steve Nash, who won the last two seasons.”

Fisher Is Hero Once Again In Jazz Series ClincherNBA News - National Basketball Association
In the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, Andrew Aragon writes “Derek Fisher's Game 5 performance can be summed up in one shot. With 9:42 remaining, he received a pass on the left wing and attempted a three-pointer. It hit the side of the rim, bounced up, and somehow arched its way inside the basket. It gave the Jazz a five-point lead, and was one of several key plays Fisher made in Utah's 100-87 series-clinching victory over Golden State on Tuesday. ‘He's been great all series, all playoff long,’ said Jazz forward Carlos Boozer.” Check out: Salt Lake Tribune | Utah Jazz

Spurs-Suns Series Highlights NBA's International Scope
Elizabeth Merrill of ESPN.com writes "In the NBA these days, it's not too hard finding someone who can relate. Parker can turn to Boris Diaw, a childhood chum with whom he shared dreams about playing in the NBA. Diaw plays for the Phoenix Suns. Or, if Parker wants to talk European culture, he can sit down with teammate Francisco Elson, a 7-footer from the Netherlands who still can't figure out why Americans slather ketchup, instead of mayonnaise, on their fries." Pistons Faced Tough Task, But Series Finally ‘Done’NBA News - National Basketball Association
In the DETROIT FREE PRESS, Mitch Albom writes “done with you. Done with your team.. Done with your guards, Hinrich and Gordon. Done with your big men, Deng and P.J. Especially P.J. Done with him. Done with your Wallace, who used to be our Wallace. Done with the threats of an upset for all time. Done with you, Chicago. ‘We definitely didn't want to face that kind of history,’ said Tayshaun Prince, who helped lock up the Game 6 clinching victory that squashed the two-game comeback from the upstart Bulls. ‘... We didn't talk about a Game 7.’ But make no mistake. When the Pistons left the court at halftime, trailing by five, the idea haunted them.” Check out: Detroit Free Press | Detroit Pistons

Gibson’s Heroics A Surprise To Some, Not LeBronNBA News - NBA
In USA TODAY, Mike Lopresti writes “no, the Cavaliers had another guy Saturday night. Daniel Gibson. Who saw him coming? A Texas rookie who averaged 4.6 points a game during the season. One of the lesser recognized co-stars in the LeBron James Show. Who saw him coming? James did. Anticipating double teams from the Pistons wherever he went, James gave the pre-game marching orders to Gibson. ‘Get that gun and get it locked and loaded,’ he said. ‘Just shoot it. Don't second-guess yourself. Just shoot it.’ “

Spurs’ Home Opener Provided Unlikely PreviewNBA News - NBA
In the SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, Buck Harvey writes “LeBron James showed up for the Spurs' first home game of the season. But what happens if he's here for the last one? This is how a Nov. 3 column began. This is called a stretch. It happens on deadline. The column continued: It would be Popovich vs. Brown, a teacher matched against a pupil, which is something we've seen before in the Finals. Mike, this time, would sub for Larry. LeBron had such a memorable dunk that November night, he kept a picture of it in his locker stall this season. It was a fantasy, of course. What were the odds both the Spurs and LeBron would get to June?” Check out: San Antonio Express-News | San Antonio Spurs
